Persuasive Writing Activity

Persuasive writing turned into a Jeopardy game? Ask no more! This is a fun, engaging activity that students will enjoy working on and will also improve their persuasive writing skills.

Please note, we have set the prep level to 'Some Prep Required' as you can change the prompts provide. Don't want to do it, then it's a minimal prep activity!

🖥️ How to play!

  1. Open your Teacher Portal, type in your lesson's terminology (separated by commas), and hit 'Launch Lesson'.

  2. Place the student link on your LMS (i.e. Daymap or whatever you use). They will need this to join.

  3. Project the 6-letter Join Code on your board. Students enter their name and the code on their Student Portal to join the live lobby.

  4. Students are faced with blank tiles. They need to guess the secret word. (Green means correct letter and spot; Orange means correct letter, wrong spot). The fewer tries it takes them, the more points they score!

  5. Guessing the word is only half the battle. Once solved, students must lock it in by typing out the definition in their own words.

  6. When lesson is up, press the red 'End Activity' button. It safely closes the lobby and prompts students to download their work!

💡Teacher tips!

  1. Don't let great work go unnoticed! Click on any student in your leaderboard to open their progress. Hit one of the "Quick Recognition" buttons (like "You're On Fire!" or "Rocketing Ahead!") to send some positive praise their way. I don't know why, but students love this!

  2. Need to explain a concept or grab the students attention? Hit the green "Lock Screens" button. It instantly freezes every student's screen with a giant red padlock.

  3. If you are running out of time and want students to only focus on the definitions, you can hit the 'Reveal' button.

🎬 Setup tips!

  • Time: 30–40 minutes.

  • When creating your wall, just separate your words with a comma and a space (e.g., PHOTOSYNTHESIS, GRAVITY, INERTIA). The system handles all the formatting and capitalization for you.

  • Remember, this activity is split across two screens. Make sure you are projecting/using the "Teacher Dashboard" and your kids are navigated to the "Student" page.
